ISU Ivy College of Business Announces New Programs

June 21, 2021

(Ames, Iowa) — The number of programs available to students who choose the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business has reached a historic level. On June 3, two new majors were approved by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa:

  • Human resources: bachelor’s degree in human resources, which is the most requested major the college does not currently offer.  Currently, human resources is a track within the management major. By creating a stand-alone major, this aligns with the professionalization of the human resources field. Students can declare this major starting in the fall semester 2021.
  • BBA 100 percent online: bachelor of business administration degree — this is designed for students with some prior college experience and is targeted for working and new professionals with at least 45 credits of college education. The main focus of the new degree is to appeal to students who wish to balance a full-time job and the full completion of a four-year degree at a highly-ranked university. Students can declare this major starting in January 2022.

“As you can see, the Ivy College of Business continues to add programs that benefit our students and their future employers,” said Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding. “We have achieved our highest national ranking for undergraduate programs. We are among the top 13 percent in the 2021 U.S. News & World Report rankings. We have dedicated faculty and staff to support students throughout their time at Ivy. Students are supported in many areas, including selecting a major, preparing for career fairs, internships and full-time employment. We are here to help our students succeed at Iowa State and beyond.”

There is more on the horizon. Several additional programs are currently going through the approval process. A few examples include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management: three healthcare courses will be available this fall for students who are ready to take this path.
  • Master’s degree in entrepreneurship
  • Master’s degree in healthcare analytics and operations
  • Concurrent MBA – cyber security engineering
  • Concurrent MBA – construction engineering

Adding new options for students is nothing new at Ivy. Recent program additions for business students include actuarial science, business analytics, business analytics minor, and business and technology consulting minor.

The college also recently launched a professional sales certificate, which is an asset to any student at Iowa State University.
