AMES, IOWA, Jan. 3, 2022 — The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) welcomes Kate Kurka Gillum to its staff as the new marketing coordinator. She is responsible for social media, email marketing, member engagement, and visitor services for the Ames CVB.
“We are extremely fortunate to have hired someone with Kate’s broad range of marketing skills,” said Carole Gieseke, director of marketing and communications for the Ames CVB. “We can’t wait to implement a new brand in 2022, and Kate will play a huge role in that process.”
Kate is a former content manager for Food & Wine and assistant editor for Parenting.com. She has developed marketing campaigns for a variety of businesses, and she has extensive experience creating content for digital media. Her most recent position was with LenderClose, where she was a content communications specialist across multiple marketing channels.
“I’m so excited to be able to join the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau staff,” Kate said. “Joining the team is such an honor. It has been great seeing how my skills complement the rest of the team’s.”
Kate holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Drake University. Her first day with the organization was Dec. 14.
The local travel industry annually welcomes thousands of overnight visitors and single-day visitors each year. These visitors annually account for $114 million dollars in direct spending in our community, through overnight accommodations, retail spending, dining, entertainment, and travel expenditures.
The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (Ames CVB) is a member-based organization, supported by hotel/motel tax. The Ames CVB builds economic activity in the Ames area by recruiting visitors to the community for conferences, conventions, sports, group tours, special events, and leisure trips.
