Enroll in one of DMACC’s eight Career Academy Programs and enter the workforce with an Associate’s Degree and highly trained in the field of your choice. Programs available on the Ames campus include Automotive Collision Technology, Automotive Mechanics Technology, Building Trades/Finish Carpentry, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Health Occupations and the Teacher Academy.
We actively promote a number of initiatives that seek to unite schools and our business community as well as develop highly skilled and adaptable innovators and leaders. These initiatives include but are not limited to: Future Ready Story County career exploration and preparedness website, youth leadership programming, SCALE, Ames Business Engagement Collaborative, career fairs, apprenticeships, Teaching for the Workforce professional development conference, and student/parent career exposure opportunities.
It’s never too early to start thinking about what you want to be when you grow up! Future Ready Story County (FRSC) is an online resource for students from preschool to high school that allows them to explore career paths, find job shadow opportunities, check-out upcoming events. Furthermore, FRSC is designed to connect PK-12 teachers, students, parents and local businesses to strengthen synergies within the community and provide students with unique, hands-on learning experiences that will help them be future ready, whatever that future may be!

The overall goal of this aspect of our Workforce Solutions programming is to support the overall economic recovery of Story County and Boone. We will do this by implementing the following initiatives: supporting up-skill training opportunities, encouraging local child care provider training, host a women in manufacturing event, and other opportunities that will support talent development in Story County and Boone.
Leadership Ames was created in 1988 by the Ames Chamber of Commerce to develop informed, involved and concerned local leaders. The program gives both experienced and emerging leaders a broader view of civic leadership responsibilities and opportunities through direct contact with a wide spectrum of institutions and people who shape the community where we live and work. The mission of the Leadership Ames programming is to develop leadership abilities and cultivate relationships to promote community involvement and advancement.
In partnership with DMACC, we are pleased to offer the Story County Teaching for the Workforce Academy each summer for regional teachers. This interactive workshop is four days long and is packed with tours, panels, keynotes, and more. After this course, teachers from preschool to high school will have a better understanding of today’s STEM workplaces and build an understanding of skills required for workplace success. Students who attend the academy are eligible for two license renewal credits through the AEA. Registration for the next session will open in Spring 2020.
A series of Summer events for interns and young professionals in the Ames/Story County/Boone area. These events are an opportunity for interns and young professionals to acquaint themselves with Story County, enhance professional development, and network with our business community.
