Here's just a handful:
Leadership Ames was created in 1988 by the Ames Chamber of Commerce to develop informed, involved and concerned local leaders. The program gives both experienced and emerging leaders a broader view of civic leadership responsibilities and opportunities through direct contact with a wide spectrum of institutions and people who shape the community where we live and work. The mission of the Leadership Ames programming is to develop leadership abilities and cultivate relationships to promote community involvement and advancement.
This series of events is designed to inspire and re-energize you and your entire team. Join both local and national leaders for a luncheon or evening event to talk about concepts relating to leadership and provide inspiration that will leave you feeling refreshed and motivated.
Deepen your understanding of core values like philanthropy, inclusion, leadership, opportunity and teamwork, gain hands-on experience, and explore a variety of career opportunities over the course of five all-day events throughout the school year with students from across the county.
The Ames Economic Development Commission (AEDC) hosts a series of three or four events over the summer months for interns in the Ames/Story County area. These “See Yourself in Ames” events are an opportunity for local interns to better acquaint themselves with our community and area business leaders. Once interns see what the Ames/Story County area has to offer, we hope they will consider staying in our area once they begin their careers.
We have also created an Intern Guide to help businesses develop an intern program.
It’s never too early to start thinking about what you want to be when you grow up! Furthermore, SOAR is designed to connect PK-12 teachers, students, parents and local businesses to strengthen synergies within the community and provide students with unique, hands-on learning experiences that will help them be future ready, whatever that future may be!

Students who attend the academy are eligible for two license renewal credits through the AEA. Registration for the next session will open in Spring 2020.
