Leadership Ames
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Participants selected for the Leadership Ames Class will listen to presentations, debate issues, participate in class activities, visit with area leaders, tour facilities and get to know individuals representing a broad cross-section of the community.
There are 12 class sessions that each focus on different themes. Participants are expected to attend all 12 sessions and a graduation evening event. After graduation, all class members will be assigned a day to facilitate for the next year’s class. In addition to the day sessions, class members also complete a group service project of their choosing.
Leadership Ames was created in 1988 by the Ames Chamber of Commerce to develop informed, involved and concerned local leaders. The program gives both experienced and emerging leaders a broader view of civic leadership responsibilities and opportunities through direct contact with a wide spectrum of institutions and people who shape the community where we live and work. The mission of the Leadership Ames programming is to develop leadership abilities and cultivate relationships to promote community involvement and advancement.
Class tuition is $1,500. Scholarships are available. We recommend working with your employer for tuition assistance as well. If you have questions about Leadership Ames, contact the Chamber office at 515-232-2310.

SERVICE PROJECTS
Leadership Ames classes split into teams that work together to complete a community service project. Projects have ranged from fundraising events to issue awareness, to supply drives and remodel work for local non-profits.
Teams will have the opportunity to choose a project they feel passionate about. We encourage everyone to get creative! There will be limited class time available for service project work, so team members will be expected to work together outside of class days in order to complete their project.
Non-Profit Organizations: If your organization has a project that you need support on, please email Jan Williams at jan@ameschamber.com. While we can’t guarantee that every project will be selected, we are happy to connect our teams with area organizations.
